This guide helps you resolve common technical issues in Shapeshifter. If you're experiencing problems with login, Chrome Extension, resume updates, or job tracking, you'll find solutions below.

Chrome Extension Issues

Unable to Log Into the Chrome Extension

If you or your clients are having trouble logging into the Chrome Extension, follow these steps to sync it properly:

  1. Log in to the Shapeshifter platform using the unique link and passcode provided by your coach

  2. Open the Chrome Extension while on that specific pageβ€”it should log you in automatically

  3. Navigate to LinkedIn or a job board and open the extension again; it should now be ready to use

The Chrome Extension syncs with your active Shapeshifter session. Make sure you're logged into the platform before opening the extension.

Compatible Websites for Chrome Extension

The Chrome Extension works on different sites depending on what you're trying to do:

For Job Analysis: The extension works on LinkedIn, Indeed, popular Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), and most websites with clear job data.

For Networking: The extension is currently designed to work specifically on LinkedIn.

Job Tracking Issues

If you receive an error when trying to manually paste a job link into the tool, this is a known limitation.

We do not recommend pasting links directly because some URLs have security restrictions that prevent us from fetching the data. The most reliable method is to navigate to the job page directly and use the Chrome Extension to capture it.

Avoid copying and pasting job URLs. Instead, visit the job posting page and use the Chrome Extension for best results.

Resume & Document Issues

Uploaded New Resume but Job Matches Still Use Old One

If you've uploaded a new resume but your job matches are still based on the old version, you need to set the new resume as current. There are two ways to do this:

Option 1: Go to the Resume section in the left panel and select "Change Resume"

Option 2: Go to Documents, add a new document (select "Resume" type), and then click Actions > Set as Current Resume

Updated resumes only affect future job recommendations. Jobs already loaded in your dashboard will not be re-analyzed with the new resume.

Will Existing Job Matches Be Re-Analyzed After Resume Update?

No. Your updated resume will be used to analyze future job recommendations only. Jobs that have already been loaded into your dashboard will not be re-analyzed.

Job Search Results

Shapeshifter Shows Fewer Jobs Than LinkedIn

If you're seeing fewer job results in Shapeshifter compared to LinkedIn, this is actually by design. There are two main reasons:

1. The Illusion of Many Jobs on LinkedIn

LinkedIn often shows jobs with similar keywords but different actual roles. For example, searching "Business Analyst" might return "Salesforce Business Analyst," "Data Business Analyst," and other specialized roles that may not match your client's preferences. Shapeshifter uses AI and your configured preferences to filter for truly relevant opportunities.

2. Too Many Filters Applied

If you have strict filters set, you may be excluding good opportunities. We recommend:

  • Use "Relevant" mode instead of "Exact" match

  • Select all industries to broaden your search

  • Check that your salary range is realistic for the market

Shapeshifter prioritizes quality over quantity. Fewer, more relevant job matches save time and increase application success rates.
